I have a 1995 Chevrolet c1500 with the 5.7L engine. Today I started my truck, with no problems ran perfectly. Drove to the gas station, got gas, then restarted my truck and all of the sudden it was at a higher idle around 1100 rpms, the check engine light came on and when I shifted to drive, the tires squealed a little. When driving I noticed it was hesitating to shift and shifted kind of roughly when it did finally shift. I have kept up with maintenance and take the best possible care of it. Like I said it just randomly started acting up when i restarted it after about 5 minutes. Any idea of what could cause this?
Get the OBD 1 code reader there cheap as hell now The speed sensor could be causing g the shift issue You could have a bad injector too Get the code reader Its OBD 1 not 2 the scanner is cheap or look on line there is a way to use a volt meter to get the codes i forgot exactly how but i do remember it was very easy to do good luck

Engine looks a bit too large for a 250, but it really doesn't matter, if you can't find info for it on the net just think about how easy it will be trying to find maintenance parts when you need them. Walk away.
I currently have the same issue and I got a TPS trouble code and a EGR trouble code. In the mornings it idles high and has a check engine light, shifts into gear rough, has difficulty upshifting unless I give it extra throttle. It shifts rough when it does. If I accelerate too fast it will bog the engine. BUT.If the weather warms up, on the way home it runs just fine. I'm headed to address the EGR solenoid now and will advise if that works.
check engine light means a code in the system. auto zone will scan the code for you for nothing. the code will tell you what to look for. get back to us with that code so we can help out
