Question:

I have a 12 x 16 foot persian rug and I wanted to know how much I could sell it for (approximately)...?

... if I wanted to sell it spur of the moment tomorrow. My entire family is going to Disneyland for Thanksgiving and I really want to go, only I don't have the money to do so. I just wanted to know what to expect for the rug. Please give serious answers. Thanks!

Answer:

Answer depends on various factors namely:- (I am assuming it is a genuine hand knotted rug) 1.) Age 2.) Knot Count 3.) Color combination (Whether the colors are properly set) 4.) Quality of wool 5.) Vegetable Dyes/ Chrome Dyes 6.) Your Patience (Desperate sales are always at a pittance) But still, for a 192 Sq Ft rug , I would say that you should at least expect about $ 18-20 per Sq Ft if I assume that you rug is just about average in all the factors enlisted above. Send me a photo of the rug , with close ups of front and back and I will do a free appraisal for you
Persian rugs of that size could be worth up to $50,000, depending on the age, wear, and construction, including the materials and gauge. You need a proper appraisal, and then they don't just sell overnight. Suggest you find a different way to raise the money you need, or is it that you want.
Have an Oriental rug dealer appraise it. They are the only ones who can give you an accurate figure. It depends on things like whether it's handmade or machine made, and how it is on wear and tear, which isn't always visible until it gets bad. You wouldn't get cash on hand anyway, they'd give you a check if you sold it. Plan ahead next time.
Check Craigslist, but honestly dear, who has the money to buy a Persian rug today when half of us are unemployed? Nobody, that's who.
Depending on many factors it could be worth nothing or even thousands. The tough thing would be finding a buyer in your area. I assume you know how much you paid for it... put a free ad on craigslist to sell if for what you paid for it or best offer.
