Question:

I have a 2003 Saturn Ion and my question is whats the difference between a windshield wiper transmission and?

motor? the problem i‘m having is that my driver side wiper fly‘s off to the side when i use it i took my car in he said i need a new arm and motor but another place tells me a transmisson help me please!?

Answer:

The transmission is the gears and arms coming off of the motor that lead to the posts that the arms are on. The arm may just need to be tightened down on the post. Make sure the arms are tight and see if you can manually move the wipers with your hands. If not turn the wipers on and see what happens. If they move by hand you really need to see the slippage yourself. Wherever you took your vehicle shouldn't mind showing you the problem, if they don't i wouldn't feel comfortable.
The motor is what makes the wipers go back and forth . What they call the transmission is what connects the motor to the arm . Did you try to take the arm off ? If so , you may just have it ****** wrong .
They are the same thing - and both places were incorrect (sounds better than lying) - the wiper arm can be removed, then placed back on the wiper motor stalk (the part that the wiper arm attaches to) in a different position to correct it from wiping over too far; it will take some trial error to get it right, but that will fix it
