Question:

Are air intakes worth it?

I have a 2004 spectra gs and am trying to decide whether to get one to juice a little power it its weak engine. Are they worth it? What are the price ranges? Are they easy to install? At one point in price do they really get fancy?

Answer:

It depends on what type of air intake you want, Cold air Intake or just a better filter.
Really easy to install and boosts horsepower, ranges depends on the brand, Power you can alos boost that by buying plantinum spark plugs
Under-hood temps can reach 200 degrees, a cold air intake directs cooler air from outside the engine bay to your intake system. Cold air expands more then warmer air so it make a few extra horse power. If there is one for your car it might be in the $125.00 dollar range and might take a few hours to install. Most are easy install because they follow your cars original air intake pattern but go a little further by insulating the the cool air from the engine bay heat. Most of them offer their oil soaked air filter in the kit, it needs to be used to free up air flow and has to be cleaned often. Most auto magazines have them in their aftermarket adds with web sites for your choosing. Good Luck.
