Question:

I have a 45 gallon tank to turn in to a salt water?

i want to make it as a saltwater tankwhat are the main things you need?how many fish can be in there?the fish are expensive but they look really cool?i want a clown fish, blue tang? i dont know if i should get a yellow tang because they are 50.00?

Answer:

To convert your FW tank to SW aquarium you need, 1. At least canister filter. Prefer sump with wet/dry 2. Protein skimmer. 3. Few powerheads or one tunze. 4. Pump for close loop. 5. Salt 6. Hydrometer 7. Lights
technically all you need apart from a freshwater set up is salt and a hydrometer calcium based sand (aragonite, dolomite, oolite, etc) and live rock make things a heck of alot easier for a FO (fish only) or FOWLR (fish only with live rock) set up powerheads or excessive lighting are not required, the flow from the filter/skimmer and the normal floroscent strip light will suffice the fish are expensive but they look really cool? that's not really a question is it? blue tangs get way too big for a 45 and most people will say the same about yellow tangs for a decent look-alike try a lemonpeel angelfish, or twin spot hogfish
