I spider won't survive the heat of a kiln sitter. If the kiln didn't shut off you have a different problem. Impossible to tell whether the defect is in your kiln sitter or your use of it. If you had kiln wash on the shelf the melted clay shouldn't stick to it. If you didn't have kiln wash it might. You have to figure out whether you could gently chisel the clay away or not.
