Question:

I have rug on my carpet, how do i make it not slip/move?

I have a massive rug on my floor carpet. We have it because our carpet is maroon and carpet is brighter so during the day and night, the room doesn't look that dark. The problem i am facing is that my rug is sliding/moving (slowly) towards the way we walk. I have tried the Rug Tape that we stick under the rug to give it grip, that did not work.I am wondering what other solutions maybe. I will only Screw my rug to the carpet/floor if that is my only option. Every week, we have to move the swing (indoor), the heavy sofa, bird cage (we have pets) and other furniture to actually fix it and it takes a lot of time. I need multiple options if possible, but hopefully some of you may have had this and found a great solution for it. I am willing to spend money to get this problem Fixed. My option does not include getting rid of the rug.Thank you for helping.

Answer:

If you have a sub-floor underneath your carpeting and you rug is a medium to high shag material, then you could use #8 x 1 3/4 pan head screws that will be long enough to go through to the wood sub-floor. Install them every 6 along the perimeter and every 12 within the area that is left. Don't drive them too far in as you want the head of the screw to remain high enough to catch the rug (not pull through). I would normally use staples, but in this case they would just pull out.
You already answered your own question. Nail it down or screw it down. If you own the house, replace the carper. if you rent, wold do the above. good luck
I had this problem with a runner over a carpet. I bought a plastic runner that had teeth on the underside. These teeth sunk into the pile of the carpeting. On top of that plastic runner, I placed an inexpensive non slip rug pad the size of the runner and then placed my carpet runner over it. My carpet runner has not slipped or shifted over the wall to wall carpeting. Perhaps you could do this with strips of the plastic runner along the perimeter of the area rug?
Carpet speaks to wall to wall. Rugs are for areas and though they are available in many sizes they are not considered carpet. In very old times when rooms were all hardwoods, people did refer to their large rugs as carpets but that was then and this is now. There was no carpeting back in those times as we have now.
There are very thin mats especialy made to stop rugs from running like yours is doing. Sold where ever flooring is sold. They feel tacky but will leave no residue . Placed under the rug they stop the rug from scooting or moving when walked on. Get the type mage for rugs over carpet because some are for rugs over hardwood and rugs over a solid surface. Know your rug size since they come in many sizes and can be cut to fit using scissors. They do loose the tacky feeling over time and you just wash them on a gentle cycle to revive that tackinesss.
