Taurus can be very hit or miss with it's semi-auto pistolsI have not been one to endorse Para Ordinance since I eye-witnessed one of their frames grenade using standard pressure 45 ACP a few years ago(the pistol was at less than 100 rounds on it's maiden cruise too- virtually brand new) Taurus dealers generally mark a new Pt 1911 in the $600 range in my areafor a few bucks moreI can find a very nice Colt 1911 ( new or used,,, depends on the model)some of the Kimbers (new or used) and a couple of versions of theSpringfieldd Armory 1911's
The Taurus does have all the bells and whistles., I like the steel one.
I have a long history of dealing with Taurus and their poor quality control issuesPlus, sending a firearm in for repair means waving bye bye to it for 4 months or so (normal turn around time for them) because of the high volume of firearms in for repairThe para is an EXCELLENT pistol (and they are now made in the U.Sinstead of Canada!!) it is easy to upgrade/modify, accurate, reliable, priced right and by far the better firearmAlso, check into the Rock River Arms pistolAlso a great pistolshoot safe
Either Taurus is fineAluminum is lighter and may not take quite as much punishment but,still goodPara has come a long way in the last few years.Good gunsIf I had 600-700 I would get a Springfield or Kimber for sureColt and SW 1911's are nice too.
Take some time off of workWorkers comp will pay any medical expenses that you incur because of the accident.
