I remember The Tubes. Good tunes.
I do, I went to many of their entertaining concerts in the late 70's and 80's. The Tubes' live shows were rife with allusions to mainstream film (Dr. Strangelove, Rollerball, Saturday Night Fever, Grease), then-forgotten B-movies (Wild Women of Wongo, Attack of the 50 Foot Woman), music (Tom Jones, punk rock, a medley of Nelson Riddle television themes), contemporary pop culture (Patty Hearst, the Viking program), television (Let's Make a Deal, Fernwood 2Nite, the anime Raideen), and literature (Nelson Algren's A Walk on the Wild Side), presaging the subcultural reverence and over-the-top theatricality of later groups like The World/Inferno Friendship Society. These shows were expensive to produce, however, and while they earned the band a reputation for being one of the most entertaining live acts of all time. You have inspired me to pull out my Tubes collections! Have Fun!
I saw them live in '85 with Todd Rundgren as guest for their Love Bomb (produced by Todd Rundgren) tour. Awesome show! I have their entire collection on both vinyl and CD. Also check out Fee Waybill's solo albums of Read My Lips and Don't Be Scared By These Hands
I went to a Tubes show a year ago in Elgin, IL. We stayed at the same hotel as the band and had drinks in the bar with them after the show. I talked with Roger Steen for about an hour and a half. He plays a Les Paul Custom, Warren Haynes Edition guitar. These are all really nice guys with a real love for music and it shows in there concerts. Have fun.
