I'm not entirely sure about the vermiculite but i wouldn't think it would be a good idea, wouldn't straw or shredded newspaper be a better idea!
I would not advise the use of vermicullite for the bedding of you bird , it may be tempted to eat or try it ,then you would loose your bird through intestinal blockage, as this product will Not disolve or break up in any birds gut(crop) If you can get a little Peat or even a pieces of grass with the soil on it dry it off and this is all the bedding your bird will need (I recomend peat if possible)
