Question:

I recently found out that the ceiling in my bedroom may not have insulation, just roof. Can this be fixed?

My neighbor told me that there is no attic space in the main bedroom. It is a 2 story house, but the master bedroom is the ONLY room that is significantly hotter than the other 2 rooms. Is it possible to put some sort of insulation over the existing ceiling and then drywall over it? Or....??????

Answer:

yes it's called blown insulation, you can get it at lowe's and they will even rent you an insulation blower
In answer to your question, yes, you could use one of the sheet insulations such as rigid fiberglass or expanded polyurethane, but as one poster said it would likely be less expense and hassle if you just took the existing ceiling down and insulated with bats or spray foam.
Well, if you are willing to re-drywall anyway, why not tear down your existing ceiling and insulate it with fiberglass batts or blown cellulose? Then, you won't have two ceilings. When I moved into my house, I always hated how people just layered things like floors and just put the new over the old. Plus, I don't know how much ceiling space you have, but you would lose about 4 inches from redrywalling a second ceiling.
