Question:

I want to build a keyboard stand that will support several pieces of musical equipment.?

I need some information on a DIY (Do It Yourself, for the layman) keyboard and instrument stand that will support a couple of keyboards and drum machinesI would like to make it out of as light a weight material as possibleWould PVC be strong enoughWhere can I find inexpensive aluminum tubing? Where can I find further information on building a stand/rack myself?

Answer:

Call the ACLUThey might defend him because some redneck Barney Fife is trying to take the Patriot Act and run riot with it.
PVC would be your better choice than aluminumLook for schedule 80, it is stronger, and avoid schedule 40 and drainpipeI also recommend not gluing the stand together, rather use screws and and screwgun so you can assemble and disassemble easilyReinforce with TEEs about every four feet, especially under heavy items.
