Question:

I want to buy a camcorder. If I buy a camcorder that requires a memory card, then do I need a card reader?

How would I export my footage from the camcorder onto a computer so that I can edit my footage. Do I need a card reader if the camcorder requires a memory card?

Answer:

You can download the file through a usb cable. Find the manual on line to be sure. My computer wont handle large storage devices with the card reader but will download through the camera.
Usuing a card reader may likely damage the card and lose the media files. Cameras tend to like being boss over their cards. And so like to be connected to the compuuter by the usb cord that came with the camera. If you format the card via the compuuter and then put back in it may likely cause damage to the camera or ruin the card. Cameras come with what they need.
I always use a card reader with my flash camcorder and my digital cameras that take video. I find it much easier to copy/paste from the card reader. You can of course download your flash drive camcorder via USB cord.
