I want to switch from wood heat to propane. can the same chimney be used?

Answer:

this is possibly a number of problems, the gas pressure may be low and not keeping the furnace hot enough to keep the fan running or there could be a crack in the heat exchanger, you should buy a carbon monoxide detector any way for 25 to 35 dollars it could save your life and detect carbon monoxide in your home, but the smallest issue would be a rotary dial that sticks inside by the heat exchanger and gets hot and kicks on the blower then the cold air passing by it cools it off and shuts off the fan until it heats up again, its possible that is defective, id get a professional to check it out!
fire alarms sense heat some advanced ones can also sense carbon monoxide if it looks old, it probably doesn't have CO detectors
