Question:

If a motor had the specs as below, would it be AC volt or DC volt?

3/4 HPVOLTS 230/460 1725 RPM FRAM 42CYZHZ 60

Answer:

It is an AC motor and it is a 3 phase motor. Have an electrician, wire it up for you if it does not have wire with plug, since you have to ask this it is best that, you get a professional to hook it up. You can destroy the motor or worst you can kill yourself. It also should say single phase, dual phase or 3 phase, some place on the motor. If not, on inspection a good knowledgeable person can figure it out.
The spec tells you it operates at 60Hz, (or 60 Hertz, or 60 cycles per second) therefore it's alternating current (AC), whereas DC is direct current,( a consistent level)
AC Volt. HZ 60 means frequency 60 cycles per sec., which is the characteristics of Alternating Current. DC Volt does not have frequency, as it flows continuously.
It is certainly an AC motor. It is a 4-pole design. Given that it is only 3/4 HP and operates at 230 or 460 volts and with a frame that small, it is most likely a single-phase motor. But there should be dual leads on the imput so as to allow either voltage. You should have a qualified electrician or tech evaluate if it is single or 5-phase and how the leads are to be connected.
HZ 60 would be Hertz 60, would inducate an alternating input. Looks Like its AC.
