Question:

If I'm building an open-ended verticle silo for wood chips...?

How do I take into consideration the angle of repose of the wood chips? Do the silo walls have to make an angle greater than or less than the angle of repose, to make sure it doesn't pile up too fast? The wood chips will fall from above, and stay in the silo temporarily, and at a slower rate, will leave the silo from the bottom. Thanks in advance.

Answer:

No matter what the angle of repose, it only occurs from the top of the pile to the sides. The angle of the walls will have no effect related to the angle of repose. You may have a packing problem, though, no matter what
There is no definite angle of repose for the wooden chips due to the various shapes and friction factors, therefore you may design the silo at any angle and provide air blower to clear any wood piles
