If it wasn't your heroin, or cocaine, or whatever, then you need to fight this. You need a lawyer, unfortunately, this is going to be expensive. Your lawyer is most likely going to ask you for a flat fee of $5000-$10,000 or so, and THEN he'll try to convince you to plead guilty to a lesser charge. Don't do it! Defense attorneys do this all the time, so they can settle your case with as little effort as possible. Demand a jury trial. A judge will only side with the cops, if it comes down to your word agains his. You already know the attitude of the police- the ones that have answered here have implicitly defended this officer's actions. Typically, cops will stick up for other cops, no matter what. Although the rosary is technically illegal, it's not the reason you were pulled over. There's no way a Chicago cop is going to waste his time on something like that! You were pulled over because the cops are looking to get either you or your boyfriend any way they can. The fact that they planted drugs is proof of that. Did you give them permission to search your car? If so, why, after he told you he had probable cause and presumably didn't need permission? They wrote a false no insurance ticket simply so that they would have something to drop when they plea negotiate with you. Regardless of the outcome of this case, you and your boyfriend need to fly below the radar for a while. Otherwise, this sort of thing WILL keep happening, until they get what they want from you.
I'll probably be buying an Obama t-shirt from his website. Does that count?
