Question:

In terms of pet ownership, is a country apartment really an apartment?

I live in upstate NY, and although I live in an apartment, it's really just one level of a house, with a medium sized yardI've been researching appropriate dog breeds for me, and I am having a hard time because some websites say that certain breeds don't do well in an apartment, but I think they are talking about big city apartmentsA lot of information says things about having a hard time house breaking dogs because you have to wait for the elevator, etc.but this doesn't apply at all :)So, should I just consider my home a small house when doing my research?

Answer:

First off you aren't 6'3, you're 6'2Secondly do your senior project and worry about this later!!!!!!
I would consider your living situation as a regular houseThe dog won't know you are sharing part of the building with someone elseI do have to ask.do you plan to live there long? Is your situation stable? If so then you should concentrate on your activity levelSuch as.a couch potato has no business getting a high energy breed like a jack russel terrier or border collieIf you like to jog and want to take your dog with you then you might want to bypass the basset houndIf you spend lots of hours away from home then you might want to consider a cat insteadPet ownership is very big comittment don't do it if you think it is at all possible that you might have to rehome him in a few yearsGood luck in your pet search.
