Question:

in your opion, should these cars be saved from the crusher? 1978 Monte Carlo, 1979 Trans am, and a1965 Impala

i would like to know who thinks these cars are worth savingthe reason i ask is cause my uncle has a junkyard and he is going to scrap all of the cars there. I seen 3 cars there that i would hate to see go to the crusher. they are a 1979 trans am that is just the body, no engine trans or interior, but the body is in very good shape. there is a 1978 Monte carlo, it looks like it is fully intact just not running anymore. and there is a 1965 Impala sedan, i know that the 4 doors arn't worth as much but this thing is in great shape for how old it is. there is no engine in it but the body only has a few dings and just a little surface rust. all of the crome trim is in great shape. i already have too many cars to work on but i feel that i am obligated to save these cars. i'm not trying to make an investment or anything, my only purpose is to save these from the crusher. i think i can purchase all of them for whatever they are worth as scrap. which is probably only $100 each.

Answer:

I want the monte!
Id grab them just to save them - it would be worth the cost to find correct year parts/drivetrain/engine for the impala and firebird. The Monte would make a nice street cruiser. You sound like me and my lawntractors - i buy old non running lawntractors and bring em back to life and keep em.
They would all be great restoration projects, but it would take a bunch of money. But if you say you already have too many to work on, you should probably let them go unless you can find someone that would take them. Try Hemmings Motor News. They have classifieds all over the country.
Damn, it's a toss up between the T/A and the Monte (what can I say I love E and F-bodies). Of course just don't let the Monte into my neighborhood, someone will put those ridiculous looking 24 rims on it and fill the entire trunk with speakers.
They are worth something to somebody, the trick is finding the person who thinks they have worth. I would say the Impala is most valuable, due to the age and condition. Of course, with no engine to match numbers, it will be worth considerably less than one with even a seized motor. The Monte Carlo is probably junk, too late to be a classic, and too early to be a decent cruiser. It is kinda scarce, but even running would only be worth a grand.or two. The TA is a close second to the 'pala, could be a nice hot rod project. All in all, nothing too great, but nothing too poor. It is not like you are trying to save 80's K cars or something, but they aren't '57 Chevy's, either. Try craigslist or eBay to gage interest.
