Question:

Incubating leopard gecko eggs?

We have been incubating a leopard gecko egg now for about 3/4 weeks. It is in a tank of its own filled will a layer of sand and the actual egg is in a plastic container in the tank that the crickets came in and it is filled half way with damp vermiculite. We have a thermometer in there too and the temp is always between 75 and 85 degrees. The thing is our egg hasn't stayed white like all the other pics I have seen, it has gone a pinky yellow colour. We started to see pink/red veins in it but now we can't see any properly because the egg is growing mold. What are we doing wrong?? I covered most of the egg in vermiculite and left a bit for the egg to breath but not enough so that the condensation on the lid of the container could fall on it. But it doesn't seem to have worked. Any suggestions??

Answer:

peat moss, vermiculite, and perlite are all parts of soilless mixes. You can also grow hydroponically (in water). Any soilless mix will have no nutrients, so careful fertilizing is a must.
