Question:

Information on Cold Air Intake?

I want to know more about cold air intake??? Could one of you describe in detail what it exactly is???

Answer:

air is taken from the front of the engine, and routed through an airbox with a filter, then a tube sends it to the engine. This is what the factory filter does already, the cold air intake is a marketing gimmick, it is just a different way to get air to the engine, it does not add horsepower despite claims it does, and in some cases the computer pops an engine light on because of a lean condition, which is not good, running a lean condition can burn up the motor. power chips are another gimmick, and not worth the price, and can also throw computer codes. On some new cars, and mostly diesels, you can change programming. But there is a price to pay sooner or later, due to the fact that trying to force more power out of anything, can cause it to wear out quicker. Engineers design engines so that they can take normal wear and tear and still provide the power we need to do what we do with our vehicles. There is no quick fix slap on part that can add extra horsepower, it needs to be done right, by building the motor you want with the horsepower you want, and it takes money, the smaller an engine is to begin with, the more money it takes to get usable horsepower out of it,
I agree with the other guys your not going to find anything for that car,you should try to get a mustang, the new civics or sweet, or switch to a nice pickup and put straight true duals.Really loud
cold air intake is just like the factory intake. pulls cold air from outside of the engine compartment versus pulling the hot air inside the engine compartment. a bunch of the OKorder intakes you see are actually hot air intakes haha. they have the filter right inside the engine compartment where all the heat is. factory intakes are very restrictive and have silencers, etc on them for noise purposes but they do on the large part pull air from the fenderwell area where air is colder. cold air intakes are normally just section of 3 pipe that replace the factory intake filter setup but in order to be a true cold air intake they need to have the filter outside of the engine compartment.not over in the corner.
i know 100X more.I'm 56 years oldlol.you are not gona find anything for that car.reallyNO performance stuffgo to a muffler shop for a different mufflerbut i were you.Id drive it like it is and save up for a 5 to 8 year old mustang or hot honda civic.
