Question:

Installing Cold Air Intake?

When you install a cold air intake, do you have to disconnect the battery? If yes, why?I tried installing a ram air intake on my car and the check engine light kept coming on, I checked the computer and it said it was running too lean, but I just found a few installation videos that all said the disconnect the battery before installing itdoes disconnecting the battery force the computer to reprogram itself for the extra air?If someone could please give a good answer it would be much appreciated

Answer:

No, a chilly air intake does little to no longer something for a autos overall performance or gas mileage. The air gas ratio will stay the comparable, and the O2 sensors won't reason an SES easy to return up.
Installing a CAI system should not affect the mixture ratio. It's controlled by the computer using inputs from the various sensors -- MAF, TPS, temperature, O2, etc. -- and it should compensate for the less restrictive air flow. That said, modern computerized vehicle management systems reprogram themselves on-the-fly to adjust for how the vehicle is driven and normal wear and tear. It is possible that the MAF sensor is seeing more air than the computer is accustomed to for any given throttle position and that's what's generating the error code. Disconnecting the negative battery terminal for 15 minutes or so will clear any program mods so that the computer will reprogram itself over the next few hundred miles.
