Question:

Iron during pregnancy!!!?

How much iron should we take during pregnancy? How many mg?I am in Asia right now, I take my prenatal vitamin daily, but my doctor in Asia gave me more iron for 2 mg. a day.People say that everyone here takes more iron, so I am worried if I take too much.

Answer:

Your doctor should know how much extra iron you need when your pregnant. You do usually need to have extra iron when your pregnant, possibility to help the baby absorb oxygen. Snow Man
It's really your doctor's call, but honestly, there are so many women that can't handle the extra iron due to the constipation that it produces that I would feel comfortable with JUST the prenatal (which is heavy in iron to begin with) and making sure I eat some iron-rich foods. If you don't have any other health issues that he's prescribing it for, of course.
How Much Iron Should You Get During Your Pregnancy? You needed about 15mg of iron per day pre-conception, which is a fair amount. Many women who aren't pregnant do not even reach the RDA each day. Now that you are pregnant you will need almost twice the amount of iron per day.
I ride avids and they are awesome brakes. they would get my vote.
