Question:

Is a wiring harness absolutely required?

for and aftermarket stereo in my car?my friend says he can install my stereo for me without one but it will take longer and is more difficult. also he says i wont be able to put my factory stereo back in again. is this true?

Answer:

The harness makes for a cleaner install and quicker because it is color coded to the new stereo and you don't have to figure out the wiring in the car. If you decide to go without one, just cut back a little from the plug to leave enough wire to reconnect them with butt connectors if you need to reinstall the factory radio. Hope this helps.
no but it is always safer to do and alot less complicated a harness in 10 dollars at walmart but goto a radio audio store and there 15 dollars nd u just macth up colors anyone can do it
i have installed four radios in my cars and at least ten for friends and i have never used a harness, just a waste of cash if you ask me, and it only adds about ten minutes to the install if you know your wire colors and how to test the different wires, as long as you don't cut the wires too short coming out of the radio you can hook it back up, you may need to add a few inches to the wires for ease
Very True. Your friend is right, and probably knows what he is doing. A wiring harness makes it a lot easier, especially when you sell your car and want to put your stock stereo back in. But unless you know what you are doing, always get a harness
