(overheat and burn) Evaporator orifice restrictions in virgin equipment. (never worked on) A multitude of economizer designs, all bad,...I rarely come across one that works as it should. Weak structural metal supporting blower motor. (bends) Heat exchangers that you're lucky to get 5 years out of.(but they're very easy to change) Thin cabinet metal resulting in bent panels / stripped screws. But hey, contractors love'm 'cause they're comparatively cheap.
I think Carrier makes decent hvac equipment. In the nearly 30 years I have been in the hvac business I have seen time and time again that the quality of the equipment is not nearly as important as the quality of the installing contractor.. In other words, the worst equipment installed by the best contractor is way way way better than the best equipment installed by the worst contractor.
