Question:

Is eating limes plain weird to you?

Okay, so, I love to eat limes plain.. All by themselves. I cut them into eights, and then just bite in! Is this weird to you? Does anyone else do it? What keeps you from doing it?

Answer:

Most limes (and, all citrus, for that matter) can be allowed to mature on the tree until you need it. When to pick limes is largely a matter of taste. The small Mexican limes are probably best picked before the start to turn yellow. Some like to let them mature a little more, however, to get rid of some of the bitter taste. Others like the bitter taste of the dark, green lime. This type of lime is the one you are most likely to see at bars and used in tropical drinks. Berss limes should be left on the tree a little longer, in my opinion, until the have a blush of yellow around the stem. They make great limeade and are really good squired on Mexican dishes. Limes should do very well in GA, especially along the coast. They're hardy inland as long as the temperatures are not too cold and they don't suffer any hard freezes during the first few years. Once established, they can take a little winter cold with no damage. The hotter the summers, the better. Hope this helps. Good luck.
When To Pick Limes
My limes (Bearss) fall off the tree when they are ripe. They look bright yellow like a lemon. I live in California, near San Francisco and my limes have been going great guns for over a month. All my friends get a bag of limes when they go home! I expect to have lots of fresh limes for at least three more months. Also, I am starting to see flowers for next years crop. Plant your lime tree in a warm spot in your yard. They like the heat. The warmer your area, the sooner in the year that your lime tree will give you fruit. Good Luck!!
