Question:

Is it bad to put cruiser tires on a sports bike?

I recently needed new tires for my ‘08 Ninja 250 and got a good deal online for Kenda Cruiser K671 tires. What I didnt see though is that they were cruiser tires not sports tires. The person who did the labor on installing the tires was freaking me out and yelling saying that I should have bought his tires and he hopes I dont die from buying the worst tires ever off the internet. Sooo with that said, is it ok to put cruiser tires on a sports bike?

Answer:

It won't help it, as it is thinner and may not lubricate well. Drain it all out, and put new oil and filter on it.
Kenda makes cheap hard compound tires that I would not use on anything. Most cruisers use an H rated tire good for up to 130MPH. Your 250 ninja isnt going to exceed that MPH! However with that tire you should NOT attempt any hard cornering! If you try to corner hard with your knee to the pavement it will lose its grip! Ride easy and you will be OK. By the way a 250 is no sport bike!
I didn't know Kenda made motorcycle tires! They make good cheap bicycle tires. Well with motorcycle tires you have a choice of really sticky, grippy tires that allow you to corner better but wear out in 7500 miles, or harder, less grippy tires that last longer but don't grip as well. Cruiser tires are the latter, made for longer mileage and more economy but you can't corner as aggressively. The Ninja 250 is not really a sport bike, it's a general-purpose bike, a 'standard'. Different people will ride it differently. If you want to 'push the envelope', to lean way over on corners, then these tires are not ideal, but then neither is the Ninja 250. If you ride like a grownup, if you just enjoy riding and don't need to do stunts and wheelies and push your luck, then these will probably do you just fine.
