Question:

Is it inhumane of me to think of the problems of others in terms of some sort of malfunctioning machinery?

I mean, if you have a gate that squeaks, you oil the gate, don't you?Is it inhumane of me to think of people's problems in a similar fashion?I get the emotional aspect of it, i just find it easier to look at things in this way...

Answer:

No, it is not And dude, no one cares, don't be so needy don't make an authority out of us, you are pathetic
I believe they call that being logical. Now I am sure you know using machine oil to fix others problems would not be logical.
What is human? Is it memory, thought, belief, ideas? Yet aren't we all plagued with troubles of the mind, desire, sex, money.....? Is all of the silliness about power, money, sex, human but not part of the human suffering? I divide up the world into human, inhuman, holy, unholy, right, wrong, good, bad, mine, yours, and don't see the fragmentation. That's inhumane.
No it's not inhumane, it's putting thing in perspective which you can understand for the purposes of empathizing with that person. Just don't let that person know how you have related their personal problems to mechanical malfunction or they will see you as belittling their problem.
It depends on the problems you are referring to. Mental problems may have a biochemical basis. If the right medicine is provided the machinery may function properly. If a person is acting awry due to abuse in their past it could be the machinery of their environment is malfunctioning. But people are biological machines if I may borrow that term from Captain Picard of the starship Enterprise. He was comparing humans to Data the humanoid robot.
