Question:

Is it normal for a budgie to fall asleep nestled into a blanket?

We just got a budgie today and the breeders told us he was 2 days out of the nestHe is quite tame and let us hold him.Tonight after I was holding him on my finger for about 2 minutes, he crawled in between my arm and my stomach and nestled his head and body into my jacket, to sort of wrap himself up it seemedHe feel asleep and stayed like that for about 1/2 hour.My partner then held him and he did the same thing- nestled himself into my partners clothes and fell asleepWe then put him on the couch and he went over to a blanket that was there, and he made his way into it and again nestled himself into a loose part and fell asleep. This seems very strange to me.kind of like something a puppy or kitten would doIs it normal? Maybe because he is just a baby and the dark close space reminds him of the nest? Or is he sick?TIA

Answer:

Try putting your back up against the wall, and then slide your butt down so you're in a sitting position, like with a chair only it's not thereMake sure your feet are together and your legs are in a right angleHold that for as long as you canYou'll really feel the burn in your quadsYou might not be able to hold it for that long at first, but you can work up to itRunning is a great exercise too-you don't need a gym or a treadmill to do it, just run around your neighborhoodSit ups and push ups are good too, no matter how simple they seemIt's more beneficial to do the squats without the wallTry to exercise for 30 minutes a day, up to 3-5 times a week.
Your bird is used to snuggling in the nest with his nest matesHe sounds like a sweet ,tame baby but quite youngMake sure he is on a good diet and eating wellAlso be very careful not to allow your bird on you when you are likely to doze offI know of 2 cases where the bird was rolled on and crushedAlso the birds can chew on synthetic blanket fibers which can become impacted in the birds cropI know of one death caused by this(I have been on forums for years and am a mod and I've heard it all)So as long as you are aware of the dangers and take precautions go ahead and snuggleGood luck Sounds like a lovely bird.
