Question:

Is it ok to store a plastic gas can in a plastic shed?

We just put up a Lifetime outdoor shed and we were wondering if it would be ok to store our plastic gas can out there vs. keeping it in our garage.

Answer:

You will have issues with evaporation and potential jumping without a lid. A simple glass lid should be fine to help prevent a ton of evaporation and to keep the fish from jumping. You can get a nice hinged glass lid for a 10 gallon tank for about $10. Also, watch out for the location as sunlight can not only cause algae growth, but can impact temperature. Lastly, replacing evaporation loss is not the same thing as a water change.
if the plastic gas can is especially made for gas so that it doesn't build up static electricity as fuel slops about.. no problems at all. If the plastic can is any other kind of plastic container, no it isn't safe at all.. in fact incredibly dangerous. Especially so as the gas container gets more empty so that a mixture of air/fuel exists above the fluid surface. The risk of explosion is real and potentially fatal. Molotov couldn't do a better job
Yes.........I have the same type shed, I store plastic gas cans (with gas), oil, paint etc. Had it for 4 yrs, no problem.
Yes you can but be careful, don't pack so many stuff in the shed, just keep it clear so you know where the gas cans are.
