Question:

my friend's hamster bedding?

is it okay if my friend's hamster bedding is SAW DUST??

Answer:

No way!!! sawdust is extremely bad for hamsters - tell your friend asap!!!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Sawdust is VERY bad for hamsters, it causes respiratory problems, and can make them VERY sick! Get your friend to go out and buy new bedding NOW!!!! Make sure and tell him NOT to get cedar or pine, as these can cause respiratory problems also, tell him to buy aspen. Good luck, and hope this helps. :o)
Absolutly not!!! They will end up breathing in the dust causing major respitory problems and even death. Aspen bedding is what your friend should use. There are no aromatic oils in it and no dust for them to breathe in.
NO!!! This could cause SERIOUS respiratory problems in their hamster! There's a reason they make bedding especially for hamsters! Make your friend go buy appropriate bedding NOW.
I use cotton cloth bedding which ensures that my hamsters are warm and cosy, but avoids the risk of them getting tangled up in it or choking. The cotton wool bedding is dangerous, as there have been many cases of hamsters eating the bedding (something that they often do) and being unable to digest it, causing their stomaches to swell and eventually die. Shredded newspaper is also a no no as the ink can run onto their skin, and cause them to become ill. Another reason against this bedding is that they can become tangled up and even lose limbs. Dont use cedar wood chips or sawdust as the amount of dust from these are extremely dangerous to your hamster and can cause severe respiratory problems.
