Question:

Is it possible to recoat a rug with rubber backing?

You know how bathroom rugs frequently have rubber backing on them? I was to know if there is a way to reapply the rubber backing which has fallen off and cracked due to age. The top of the rug is fine.

Answer:

I have re-coated the backing, using a spray coat, in a large can, purchased at either WalMart, KMart etc. I would check on line, sorry can't remember the brand name, but there was not too many different kinds. It worked very well, not as good as the original, but I just resprayed and continued until the washing and the can ran out. good luck hope you find it.
no there is not you will have to go buy a knew rug or keep that one.
Yes! you can get spray rubber coating from almost any auto parts store. just flip the rug over, spray it on, and let it dry.
If you can t get the rubber backing to hold I have a suggestion.. Take it off completely and get a rubberized anti slip backing you can get at any place that sells rugs etc.You can get them in many sizes and cut to size.. They won t stain vinyl flooring like some rubber backed rugs can.. When they lose their tackiness you wash them in washer GL
I have done this before and I can honestly tell you that the rubber will crack and leave bit and pieces in the washer a real mess to clean up , so now I wash them in the laundry tub and hang them outside to dry , I also try to purchase new rugs without the rubber backing ,if you need to prevent them from slipping away just buy some backing that is sold by the roll .
