Question:

Is it safe to leave a heating blanket on all night?

Well..I'm really cold tonight and can't get warm. What if I fall asleep with my heated blanket on? Is there a chance I could start a fire?

Answer:

So that an overheating and smoking element likely to short and create a fire would not be supplied with more power that would really start a fire.
It's got a short and is drawing too much current. You need an electrician. Do not attempt to do it yourself. Your question implies you don't have sufficient information to do it without becoming a short, yourself. ___________________________________ KrazyKyngeKorny (Krazy, not stupid) ???????????????????????????????????

If I'm reading your question correctly, you want to know WHY a smoke detector would be connected to trip 2 HVAC units. In the event of a fire, the last thing you want is the HVAC system to be pumping fresh air to the fire and circulating the smoke and poisonous fumes through-out the rest of the building. Many commercial buildings are designed so an operation of the fire detection equipment shuts down the HVAC system. (as well as the elevators)
