Question:

Is it safe to run a gas furnace overnight while sleeping?

I was wondering if it is normal and safe to have your gas furnace running overnight while you are sleeping? We do not have CO detectors but plan to buy some in the next coming days. I read one article online that said DO NOT run your gas furnace while sleeping but this is the first I am ever hearing about this. Why would it not be safe? If my pilot should go out apparently there is a heat bar that is supposed to shut off the gas if it detects that the pilot is not providing heat anymore. How do I know if my heat bar is working? Would my pilot not light if the heat bar is malfunctioning? So is it safe to run a gas (natural not propane) furnace overnight while sleeping? Thanks!

Answer:

Turn it off and stop smoking. When you turn it back on and the noise persists there is something wrong with the device. Either take it for repair or buy a new one.
