1) pre-ride inspection. It sounds over cautious I know, but it's the best way to make sure you are safe, and visible. 2) DON'T DRINK AND RIDE! 3) Assume that you can't be seen by other drivers. 4) Wear you leathers! They are cheaper to replace than skin. 5) When approaching a hazrd on the road, look where you want to drive,NOT at the hazzard. Your bike will go where you are looking that way. *Bonus* Don't ride beyond your abilities.
1. You go where you look. 2. You have a target on your back - riding is a game of chance - like a video game - where the goal is to come out alive. 3. Take a safety class to learn how to ride. 4. Wear protective gear at all times - even if your friends don't. 5. Ride YOUR OWN BIKE. Meaning don't leave off the gear because your friends prefer to ride in sandals in shorts. Don't hit speeds you can't handle just to keep up with others. At stop signs, stop and check for traffic yourself - don't just slide through behind the others. They have their own best interests at heart - they're not watching out for you too. That's up to you.
Sportbike in particular: 1. Buy good tires before you pay your rent. Maintain your chain, brakes, and tailight. 2. Scan with your eyes rapidly and constantly. 3. Hard acceleration can get you out of trouble just as fast as get you in trouble. Be able to downshift and hammer instantly. 4. Wear eye protection and gloves. Have enough clothing to stay warm and dry. Have enough money on hand in case you crash or get thrown in jail. Have your medical ID card. 5. Instruct your pillion to hang on tight especially from a standstill or downshift, to stay still, neutral, and calm. I've lost two passengers because of their negligence.
