Question:

Is making a ceramic table top expensive?

I want to add something to my room to spice it up a little and I was thinking of getting an old end table and making a ceramic table top My mom says not to do it because it‘s expensive and a waste of money. Is that true? I read about it online and it seems easy enough. Can i make it for cheap or? Thank you for you help

Answer:

It doesn't have to cost all that much. It all depends how you go about doing it. Go to a tile store that sell odd piece of ceramic tiles for cheap and take a hammer and start pounding into small pieces. You can use all kinds of color together to make your master piece. Some stores have out-of-date tiles that they are willing to give away or charge you a minimal fee. Check out a couple of stores that deal with tiles, small or large or both, it doesn't matter because you're going to hammer them down to pieces anyway. Try to get as many colors as you can. Do-it-your self is always cheaper than going out and purchasing the same thing that someone else did the same thing to. Check out several stores. Few pieces here, few pieces there. It all adds up. If you want to do this project, don't let other people (no offense to mom) discourage you. This is a form of art work. It's your own design, not someone else's. You could use full size pieces, but there will, no doubt be some amount of cutting involved. If you read instructions already that half the battle. However it shouldn't be a battle. It should be fun. You could become a famous ceramic artist. You just never know until you try.
If you have the table, cover it with ceramic, I believe that you can fine a good low price on ceramic tile at any large lumber place. Supprise your Mom.
