Question:

Is microfiber durable as in a sofa?

Just wondering. I love microfiber but does it make sense in a sofa?

Answer:

I have found it to be very durable, but stains easily.
I have a microfiber couch and it's OK. I would rather have leather or something like courdoroy but I like that I can wipe it with a damp cloth and any smudge that I got on it wipes off.
Microfiber is weaved together in such a way that it's extremely durable and outlasts other fabrics. It's the MICRO fibers that are weaved together tight that make it so durable. It cleans really easily if you wipe it off quickly and don't let it set in. One saleslady told me that regular fabric may endure 10,000 rubs whereas this endured 30,000. So durability is it's key strongpoint. I first thought it was really terrible, like suede...but it's nothing like that. I'm happy with my sofas.
I highly recommend microfiber for a sofa. Microfiber is the best sofa material next to leather. Make sure it is 100% polyester so it will not fade, stain or leave water marks if you have to spot wash. It cleans with hot water but if the spot is greasy you can use a drop of dish washing liquid. I know of 4 versions of microfiber. The oldest version is easy to detect, it is not as soft as the newer versions. Depending on the style of the sofa select a version of microfiber that has the appropriate backing to hold the type of seam for the furniture. The newest version has a tiny stripe to hide all the fingerprints that shows on microfiber.
