Question:

is my car alarm working on my bmw 323i ?

i just bought a 1999 323i and i don‘t know if the alarm is just not working or if it has one at all. it has a red bulb thing under the rear-view mirror, like our other cars that do have alarms, but when i unlock/lock it it does not sound so i don‘t know if it is alarm protected at all. and does the motion sensor still work if the alarm happens to be disabled?is there a way to check it the alarm is installed if not can i install it on my own ? please help

Answer:

Mine! It's an 08 Triumph Bonneville. And it's screaming at me because I left it in the shed for a week.
Best model for what? Cruising, corning, beginner, speed, etc etc etc? Be more specific. Generally though get a water-cooled, fuel injected bike. No matter what those are better than carbed air-cooled.
I just got myself a Honda Rebel. Cheap, good quality, and fits my size and needs for commuting.
Activation or deactivation of the alarm by locking or unlocking does not mean that the car would chirp or the lights flash on. Assuming that there is really an alarm installed, it depends on whether chirping or lights flashing is turned on in the Car/Key Memory, which is done through a BMW GT1 diagnostic machine (with software version 44/43 or lower) or through an SSS machine. Visually check if there is an auxiliary horn at the top right front area of the engine compartment near the right headlight (no horn no alarm), or pry open the ultrasonic module housing at the center of the roofliner just behind the driver's head (if there is no module inside then there is no alarm installed). To check for function, assuming there is an alarm installed, lock all the doors with the remote but leave one window slightly open, then extend an arm inside the car to see if this would trigger the alarm. If the alarm is not triggered then it needs to be diagnosed by a qualified technician using a BMW GT1 (it could be a bad ultrasonic module or horn or wiring or whatever). If there is no alarm installed then you could have an aftermarket one installed. Or buy the retrofit kit of the original BMW alarm and have it installed (but mind you, this needs coding of the car for the retrofit to work,. again with either the appropriate GT1 or SSS).
