Question:

Is oven cleaner bad for the heating coil?

I have an electric ovenCan I spray oven cleaner on the heating coil in the bottom, or do I have to cover it up with something? I covered it once by wrapping it with strips of foil and the foil disintegrated a bit from the cleaner and was hard to get offI can tip the coil up a bit and spray under it to coat the oven bottom, but do I have to be concerned about getting the cleaner on the coil?

Answer:

It is best to keep the oven cleaner (caustic soda actually) off the heater coilAluminum foil is not the product to use as caustic will almost immediately attack it as you sawI suggest you try a plastic food wrap film (e.gSaran Wrap, Handi Wrap, Glad Wrap etc).
