Question:

Is Powerline Technology a viable way of connecting a router to an extender/repeater/bridge?

I want to use either an extender, repeater or bridge to extend the WiFi signal throughout my houseHowever, i've heard that for the highest speeds available, the best way to connect the two would be over ethernet. Now, this would be okay, but I'm not keen on having a 100m ethernet run through my house.A couple of months ago, I purchases 2 Powerline adapters to create a link between a desktop machine and my router, and the connection is very fastI was wondering if I could use the existing Powerline adapter to connect to another access point to boost the signal.Any Suggestions?

Answer:

That should workPowerline adapters are a form of wired connection, just using power line wires to carry the signal instead of UTP Ethernet wiringPowerline adapters are point to point, so connecting two routers/AP together should work just fineHowever, your desktop will have to connect to the remote end either by a wifi link, or you have to use a second router to provide wired portsOr, add a network switch first, then plug the PC and an AP into the switch - that will work too.
