Is quartz a mineral or an igneous rock ..?

or both.. i really dont understand geology.

Answer:

It looks real enough from the picture, lab grown quartz would be far better quality and the large number of flaws will account for the price. You can try the simple tongue test, stand the sphere and an empty drinking glass together in the shade for about an hour to let them get to the same temperature then touch each one in turn with the tip of your tongue. If the sphere is quartz it will feel much colder than the glass.
