Question:

Is technology (phones, tv, internet, machinery) destroying human relationships?

I personally believe it is in little ways. 1.) Advertisements are continually cheapening human interaction. Example: the man who is talking about finding his queen and we think he is talking about a woman but no he is talking about a sofa. 2.) Face to face interaction has become less and less important in society. We are all on our phones, watching TV or on our computers sending text messages or on facebook. 3.) Everywhere you look people are not looking at the person they are talking to, they are too busy with gadgets. I mean who here has been annoyed becuase the person they were talking to was texting? So basically my question is, Do you think technology is good or bad for humans?

Answer:

I agree with you hundred percent. The worst I've seen is a mommy taking on her cellphone while pushing a stroller. The baby or child is left cut off from the interaction with the mother. I see it as psychological child abuse. Another thing is that lots of people would never talk to each other if there were no fun gadgets to do it. What they like is the technology, not the person. The first abuse of communication technology I noticed was when call waiting was invented around 1985. Imagine yourself receiving a call and after 2 minutes your caller says he has a call and asks you to hold on so you accept and he never comes back. Communications gadgets just multipliy the means of being petty and cruel. What does it mean when someone wants to be your friend on Youtube or Facebook or whatever? Some only want to be your friend so they can harass you.
Yes actually I believe it is also. I went from calling my mother like 6 times a day to sending her and my little sister IM's on Yahoo Messenger, and hitting up their myspace's. We do it more and more since she moved from where I am in Massachusetts to Georgia. Also, I Google everything. A Dictionary, Thesaurus, Phone Book, even Bible I can look up all the information online.
Bad, bad, bad, bad, BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was watching some Sex in Technology type of show...I forget the name of it...and technology is not only destroying everyday relationships, but romantic relationships as well. Sex machines to satisfy one without need of another human are in the works...one pump type thing hooked up to a computer. I don't know. I am beginning to hate the advancement of technology. Some is good, yes...but it is going TOO far!
