Question:

Is the Delta Machinery 10 Left-Tilt Contractor Table Saw Model #36-979 a good saw? Give details if possible.?

I would like to start building some home projects and do small crafts, maybe work on some small furniture projects. I would like this to last me a long time.

Answer:

The Hitachi portable table saw is the best that I have used. Pretty much most brands are nearly the same in weight and have the same features, but the table on Hitachi's saw is a little bigger. That makes cutting larger items easier.
Delta makes some great tools. Problem with most newer tools is that they went from cast iron tables to aluminum. This causes more vibration since it is lighter. Even a great saw is no better than the cutting tools used on them, so make sure you buy premium blades.. I think you will be very happy for a long time with the Delta.

That's not a bad saw. You will need a fence which I think is sold separately. Also check out the Powermatic 64A another good saw in that price range. If you have room for a 52 fence go for it. You may want to check Craigs list in your area for used saws. For about what you will pay for either of the above new you may find a used Delta Unisaw, Powermatic 66 or General 350 any of which would be even better! Have fun and happy woodworking!
