Is the recliner unstable? Does it have anything to do with friction?
If the static friction is related to the external forces that cause the movement, this is more complicated and can not be generalized
If the sliding friction is proportional to the pressure between the contact surfaces, it is also related to (contact surface material) and (contact surface condition).
