Question:

Is there any harm if you sleep and your mobile phone is beside you?

I use my mobile phone as an alarm clock and i always have it beside me but i heard that it is not good because of the waves or something like that. i just want to know whether there are any harms if you have your mobile phone with you if you are sleeping.

Answer:

There is a good article on cell phone hazards here
i also use my mobile as an alarm clock and i put it beside me. oooooooooh, now i know why i've been acting so weird lately :D nah, kidding. some say that the waves may b hurtful, but i dont think so. i put it on the dresser right near my bed, i dont think the waves would hurt. but i dont know for sure. good luck with that, to all of us :)
Mobile cause harm only when you are communicating with it. Incoming electromagnetic waves cause the harm. So, if no one rang you on your mobile during nights, then it's ok. Don't worry about that. And one suggestion also. Don't rely routinely on alarm to get you awake. Our sleep cycle and biological clock are very strong tools that awaken us when we need, just have a try and you'll soon realise that. Use alarm only when you really need to
To a certain extent, it does. Sometimes, after prolong periods of sleeping with your cellphone beside you or using your cellphone, the waves might cause headaches or giddiness. However, the theory of the cellphone cooking an egg is false. There was a television programme I watched a few months ago that experimented with that and the result was that the egg was not cooked even though 2 cellphones were used. An expert also said that it was not possible on the show. Some also say that it might cause cancer in the long run, but I'm not too sure about that.
Radio waves from mobile phones harm body cells and damage DNA Since the introduction of cellular telephones in 1983, there have been remarkable changes in the cellular industry. Recently, New Media has reported a study showing the radiation from cell phones is so full of energy they can be used to cook eggs. In the experiment, researchers placed one egg in a porcelain cup (because it is easy to conduct heat), and put one cell phone on one side and another cell phone on the other. The researchers then called from one cell phone to another and kept the cell phones on after connecting. During the first 15 minutes, nothing changed. After 25 minutes, however, the egg shell started to become hot and at 40 minutes, the surface of the egg became hard and bristled. Researchers found the protein in the egg had become solid although the egg yolk was still in liquid form. After 65 minutes, the whole egg was well cooked. The study shows how scary cell phone radiation is. People should try to avoid use of cell phones. Although so far no one has proved the radiation from cell phones can cause something clinically significant. By the same token, there has been no one who can disprove the existence of such a risk. Children should be forbidden from cell phone use because they still grow their brains and are particularly vulnerable to radiation.
