Question:

Is there any way to circumvent the smoke detector in a rental car? Has anyone tried it?

I’m sure the small black sticker on the windshield is a detector that changes color when exposed to smoke. Has anyone tried taping some saran wrap over that? Is there only one in the car? Please don’t leave anti-smoking, second hand smoke residue comments. I don’t need to hear it.

Answer:

Polycarbonate is like Lexan, a hard, unbreakable plastic (sometimes used for skylights, shatter-proof eyeglass lenses, face shields, etc). Not sure who makes the rubbery ones, they might be made of polyurethane.
