it is not a silencer, it's just the intake tube from the air cleaner to inside the fender. The reason your car is now louder is that instead of sucking air in from inside the fender, your engine is now pulling air in from the engine compartment and you can hear it easier. Put that tube back on, your engine will run better when it is pulling the cooler air in from inside the fender instead of the hot air from the engine compartment.
