Question:

Is this possible/allowed? (T-Mobile, changing phones with SIM Cards)?

If I already have a contract with T-Mobile, and have one of their cell phones, could I go to a T-Mobile store, and just buy a new phone, and transfer my existing SIM Card to it, without having to start a new/extend my contract?

Answer:

yah. Its not like they'll know lolz i knew a girl who knew a girl who bought her g1 online, and said she never got it. Wa-la a free g1. or so she says. sim cards give u freedom to get a new phone w/e, but they also are easier to steal, fyi.
yes no problem. if the contract is live you could easily transfer it (your sim) to another T-mobile phone or even better, any open line phone Most phones from the manufacturer are shipped open line meaning you could use it with almost any other sim card. Once the phone goes through a service provider however (such as T-mobile), they usually 'sim lock the phone. this is the service provider's way of protecting their investment on the phone unit. this means that should you decide to change sim cards, the old phone will only work if you get the sim card from the service provider that provided the phone in the first place. In your case, should you decide to use or give away your old phone, this will only work if the new sim card comes from T-mobile.
