Question:

What tools are applying mechanics expected to have upon hire?

Ive been a mechanic for about 10 years on my own. Ive went to school for almost 3 years and am ASE certified in Brakes, Engine repair, and suspensions. I even have some certifications from Ford, Im getting ready to go into the field officially and i have 'some' tools but i dont want to get laughed at when i open my box what should i have?

Answer:

Sterility would be an issue. Surgical surfaces and tools would need be free of pathogens to prevent secondary infections in the patient. The surgeon and operating room personnel must 'scrub in' (wash up) before and after surgery, and wear sterile gowns, gloves and masks. Equipment must be either sterilized or disinfected prior to use. Health checks would be ensuring the animal is adequately anesthetized, and oxygenated. Safety checks would involve use and proper disposal of 'sharps' (needles and scaples), use of electrical equipment (ventilators, monitors, cautery, lights, fiberoptic scopes, etc), use of gasses (oxygen and anesthetic gases) as well as exposure to medications and hazardous substances like cleaning agents and glues or biological contaminants like body fluids and aerosolized bone, blood or tissue..
