Question:

Just got my date for Air Force BMT, my job for now is listed as Electrical Aptitude Area?

I know that means i'll choose my job at basic but does it mean that I could get a job I don't want? I really want to do Biomedical Equipment Tech.

Answer:

I believe it means you will get a job in the Electrical Aptitude area. Sometimes an enlistee without a guaranteed job gets other than their first choice. The tech training for that career field is 10 months long. 4A231 Biomedical Equipment Sheppard AFB, TX Sometimes the dates do not match up for the transition from BMT to technical training. When I enlisted Open General back in 1975 I was originally slated to be an Altitude Chamber Specialist (now Aerospace Physiology 4M031) but missed the training start date and instead was sent to Aeromedical Specialist (now Aerospace Medical Service 4N031) school. It was then part of the School of Aerospace Medicine at Brooks AFB in San Antonio. I spent about a month in casual at Lackland doing menial tasks during the day awaiting the start of my tech training. I was fortunate as the job I got involved working in the Flight Surgeon's Office. It included patient care, physical exams, crash ambulance crew duties and much more. You can get a job you do not want. Or you can get fortunate like I did.Best of luck to you.
ok, you're no longer likely to actual elect your AFSC. you chosen a field, something is as much as the AF. you will fill out a sheet kinda like the dream sheet for accountability stations. yet, while it boils down you would be assigned based on your attempt rankings, overall performance, and the desires of the AF on the time. it is going to happen in the direction of the tip of uncomplicated.
absolutely you can be given a job you don't want. if Biomedical Equipment Tech is considered part of the Health care field, you won't be offered that job.
It means while in Basic, you will get a list of jobs to choose from, based on your Electronic line score. The jobs offered will be those you qualify for and that have a Tech School class that starts within about two weeks of you graduating Basic. But you have to understand, in the electronics area, Tech school class's do not start every week, or even every month, some only have 4 or 5 Tech School class's each year. So you will NOT be offered every AFSC, only those with a Tech School class that starts soon after you finish Basic. So there is really no way to tell, if Biomedical Equipment Tech will be offered or not.
Biomedical equipment is part of the Electrical Area, so you do have the chance to get that, but of course, you can get another electrical job that you don't like as much.
